Exercise has proved a challenge for me in the last few years. Deadlines demand I spend most of my evenings and weekends writing. But it’s been hard on my health, so lately I’ve been working hard to get three or four workouts in per week, either hiking or on a stationary bike (while I watch movies for review). I definitely notice a difference. I get more creative ideas when I exercise.
What about you? Do you see a connection between creativity and exercise?
And now, I have more motivation to exercise!
I can cool off after my workout with one of my favorite things…
Fat-free chocolate milk beat out carbohydrate sports drinks at helping to rebuild and refuel muscles after exercise, researchers report.
I definitely see a connection not just between creativity and exercise, but my general attitude and exercise. It’s all about getting into a routine, as I’ve found now that I feel listless and unmotivated if I don’t exercise five or six times a week. There was a long stretch of time when I didn’t work out at all, but now that I’ve been doing it for a year or so it has helped me immensely.
Also, the chocolate milk news is pretty cool. I might start drinking that after my workouts as well
I think the connection between creativity and exercise is there because there is a connection between exercise and mental health. It makes you more upbeat and less lethargic, which leads to your mind working a bit better. It also gives you extra motivation. I figure creativity just comes out of all that.
I’ve been exercising consistently for years and when I’m off my routine I get grumpy and lethargic, so yes, exercise helps my mental status too.
As for the chocolate milk–we’ve been addicts for years–5/6 gallons/week. :-).
But I loathe chocolate! Wonder if the same benefits apply to regular milk…
