No takers, eh? Well, “Contact” has a great opening sequence, but for sheer excitement in the first minute, I love “The Mummy” (1999) – zoom out from the sun, down a huge pyramid, past a mid-construction sphinx, across a huge courtyard filled with real, non-digital period performers, and ending in front of a rushing chariot. It announced that serial-throwback adventure films had fully entered the digital age – without allowing the spectacle to detract from the story (cough, cough, Indy 4).
I mean, just check it out (and dig the awesome Jerry Goldsmith score) – forty seconds of amazing cinema:
“Star Trek: First Contact” also had a great opening minute… as did, of course, the first “Star Wars”.
Sorry for the not-terribly original contributions, but I like my movies big and loud 😛
Actually, I’ve had quite a few “takers.” The post tells folks to go and post their input at http://www.filmwell.org/
D’oh! There they are. 😛
Sound of Music is my favorite first minute. The scenery and the wonderful voice of Julie Andrews are just so refreshing.
