Seattle Pacific University is seeking an experienced Web Designer.
Full-time, exempt staff position in University Communications (UC).
Responsibilities include: Help to establish and maintain an overall look and feel for the SPU Web site. Help design, develop, and maintain priority areas of the site, and provide guidelines and templates for ensuring appropriate levels of visual branding consistency across remaining areas of the site. Review project requirements with clients and web manager, research and propose design and technical solutions, create project specifications and work plans, integrate content, and provide technical development of the project. Manage two-four student employees. Work with UC director and others to establish design and technical quality standards for the SPU Web site, and administer those standards. Assist in the evaluation, installation, and support of third-party software systems as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in visual communication, multimedia, applied arts, communications, or related field; at least three years experience in user interface web design and development. Understanding of branding, information architecture, graphic design, information design, interface design, and Web site usability. Experience in (X)HTML and CSS (ability to code by hand as well as use Dreamweaver), and computer graphics tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator; proficiency in developing a Web site from wireframe to comps to the final working site. Proficiency using Flash, InDesign, Bridge, RAW images, and photo management. Must understand and have experience with social media such as Facebook, Flickr, blogs, video, wikis, MySpace, etc. Experience with multiple operating environments. Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, planning, problem-solving, organization, teamwork, and project management.
Preferred qualifications include: Knowledge or experience with a content management system (specifically, Sitecore), and web portals. Experience with SPU core technologies IIS, Linux/Unix Apache, Microsoft SQL*Server. Knowledge of email marketing and use of assorted email software services. Knowledge of legacy HTML and tables. Knowledge of SEO. Knowledge of online advertising strategies.
