As the Over the Rhine song goes: “Like all true believers, I am truly skeptical of all that I have said.”
Those words apply to most things I write. And they apply especially to this post, now that I look back on it. I was so weary of seeing Tolkien’s old notes turned into commodities that I felt no enthusiasm for The Children of Hurin. So I jumped to conclusions about it.
Well, I am very sorry.
I began backpedaling on my pessimistic response here, then here, and then here. But this is the last straw. I must read this book.

It’s a really good read. A nice companion to The Silmarillion.
You know, I have the book but haven’t read it yet. I think I will, but maybe I should read The Silmarillion first.
