I’ve waited 22 years for this fanboy photo. Thanks to my friend Don for snapping this. That’s a great picture! Pre- or post-hug?
Woo hoo! Congrats on the long-awaited pic.
I actually have a few pictures somewhere of me and some girl named Leslie Phillips when she opened for us in the late ’80s. I should probably find them and destroy them.
Jeffrey, you might remember that I first met you on the Samposts email list. After the many years that I’ve been living vicariously through your blog I’m wondering how it’s ever going to get better than this.
Awesome. I swear, the more I listen to her new album, the better it gets. And I’ve listened to it a lot.
Favorite lyric of the year: “Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.”
Stephen, that song, “Taking Pictures,” was originally on “Fan Dance,” and I actually prefer the version on that album to the new “bonus” version. You should check that out. It’s a great album, and yes, that’s one of her best songs.
Re: “Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.” For what it’s worth, the line isn’t original to Sam; it is at least as old as the title of Simone Signoret’s autobiography, published in the 1970s, and a quick bit of Googling reveals it has also been attributed to Peter De Vries, who lived between 1910 and 1993.
