Entertainment Weekly asks Guillermo Del Toro if he’s been asked to direct The Hobbit.
I’ve heard some rumblings, but nothing official. … I tried my best to read Lord of the Rings, the trilogy. I could not. I could not. They were very dense. And then one day, I bought The Hobbit. I read it and I loved it. So it would be a privilege.
Yeesssssss!!!
This would be my vote for best choice. Him or Chris Columbus.
(Okay, I kid about Columbus)
Leaving aside the question of whether Del Toro has the right style for this project, how could a guy who likes The Hobbit but couldn’t even read The Lord of the Rings direct the “bridge” film (i.e. the second part of the two-part Hobbit deal) which would require knowledge of some of the even more obscure aspects of Tolkien lore?
