I saw Ratatouille today.
Finally… a summer movie that delivers. That enchants. That makes you glad to be a moviegoer.
And how could you have expected anything less? It’s a movie from the mind of Brad Bird and the animation wizards at Pixar. Of course it’s a joy!
I’ll be writing my review this week, and it’ll show up at ChristianityTodayMovies.com on opening day.
It will be a sad, sad day if Pixar ever swings and misses. Every time they release a movie, I think, “This won’t be as good as Toy Story…as Nemo…as Monsters…as Incredibles…as….”
I LOVE me some Pixar!
I am so happy to read this! I was very worried when Disney bought Pixar because they usually manage to destroy a good thing.
But it looks like Pixar has remained free from the Disney scourge!
warpnacelle,
Believe it or not, I think Ratatouille is about that very thing… the arrival of Pixar inside Disney studios, which had become a factory for quick, cheap, “fast-food” entertainment… and how those humble Pixar geniuses would turn it around with creatvity and art, seeking to restore the reputation of a once great “restaurant.” Watch the movie, and tell me if it feels like that very tale to you.
And I say this with some chagrin, considering the fact that I’m a critic, and the critic is quite a villainous presence in this film. (The great Peter O’Toole gives him a voice. I wish I sounded as menacing and distinguished as Mr. O’Toole.)
Didn’t John Lasseter already try to make a big deal of how he was turning the ship around with Meet the Robinsons? (Of course, Lasseter also directed Cars, which wasn’t exactly all that good.) I do hope Ratatouille is more successful…
I. CAN’T. WAIT.
For both the movie and your review. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it.
