Chattaway has the scoop. Looks like we might get two Hobbit movies… one adapting the novel, and the other introducing us to a new story between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, based on Tolkien’s notes about those years. “Lonesome Dove” is one of my all-time favorites, and I ended up buying the 3-pack DVD of it, “Dead Man’s Walk” and “Streets of Laredo”. While they all have been made-for-TV productions, they all are well made and entertaining. I watched “Streets of Laredo” the other night and was struck at George Carlin’s great performance.
I’m also intrigued about “Boone’s Lick”, as well as Tom Hanks as a cowboy. He’s done just about everything else besides a western, unless you count “Toy Story”. Has Levinson directed any other westerns? I’m just curious as to why you think he is a bad choice.
