I’ve never been a big Springsteen fan. I enjoyed The Rising for a while, and a few tracks from Devils and Dust. His stuff in the 80s and 90s didn’t do a whole lot for me.
But Josh Hurst and the others who recommended the new Springsteen album of songs by Pete Seeger were right: This is the most joyous, foot-stompin’ good time I’ve heard in years.
When I make my annual mix-disc of favorites from the year, it’s going to be loaded with tracks from this.
Wow, I hadn’t heard of this CD. I’ve just been getting interested in Seeger, and “Froggie Went A-Courtin'” is one of my little girl’s favorite songs right now.
Right on, Jeffrey. For me, this is hands down the most satisfying album of the year thus far– and is likely to remain so.
Every mix I make this year is going to contain “O Mary Don’t You Weep,” and probably half a dozen other songs from the record as well…
What about ‘Nebraska?’ I’m not a big fan of Springstein either, but I love that album.
I concur about Nebraska. I AM a big Springsteen fan, but even if I wasn’t, Nebraska is an excellent album on its own merits. Probably one of the best albums to come out of the 80s, period.
haven’t got a chance to finish reading the article, but did he just call you ‘inimitable’?
that’s quite a compliment. i think you deserve it.
Insofar as he might mean “No one rambles on and on and on like Jeffrey,” he may be right.
