According to Variety, Spike Jonze is the man that Warner Brothers is depending on to take us…
Let’s see… with Curious George also on the way, what other beloved children’s books are waiting for their champion?
How about the great books by Bill Peet? My favorite: Cyrus the Unsinkable Sea Serpent!
Or Michael Ende’s overlooked fantasy Momo, a novella that’s just crying out to be discovered by someone like Studio Ghibli…
For the first time just this past year, my wife (who grew up on all sorts of children’s stories) read to me Cyrus the Unsinkable Sea Serpent. It was quite delightful but I have no desire to see it as a movie, let alone most other children’s books.
I’m always on the lookout for other well written fantasy novels, any other suggestions besides Momo and the more obvious (LOTR, Narnia, etc…)?
Well, Spike Jonze is one of the most visually inventive directors around today. I’m guessing that his movie will be well-worth watching even if it bears no resemblence to the book.
I wonder how long it will be until Hollywood decides to take a crack at Edward Eager’s fantasy novels.
Hey Jonathan,
Have you read the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin? It was recommended to me by Jeff’s wife Anne, and it is great. I am just about to finish the second book, and can’t wait to start the third.
I’ve already purchased the Martin novels for her birthday…I’m looking forward to reading them myself! 🙂
