Ditto on “Illinois” needing to grow on you. At first I was rather put off by the oddness of it, although the softer songs I immediately liked. Now, much of the music is just so joyful to listen to, and I really have not even begun to explore the lyrics. Oh, and I work about half a mile from the Great Godfrey Maze, but have never been. Sufjan might not have either. I heard that some songs were informed by personal contact with a place and others just from research and curiousity. Cool.
