Yes! The Six-Fingered Man is on the move…
I could almost have guessed that Christopher Guest‘s next story would involve independent filmmakers who make their way to the Oscars. After all, he’s covered small-town theatre, dog shows, and musical reunion tours. What’s the natural next step? For Your Consideration will star the usual suspects AND Ricky Gervais!
I hope they make action figures for this one, so I can set them up beside my collection of My Dinner with Andre action figures…
Being that his last film, “A Mighty Wind,” garnered the first actual nomination for a Chris Guest film, I’m sure that experience opened up new avenues ripe for comedy.

… still waiting for my “My Dinner With Andre” lunchbox….
Jeffrey, you recommend this in which way, cinematically, message-wise, or both? I hope the question is fair. I really like Steve Taylor, so I have very high hopes for any of his work, and though this is somewhat pigeon-holing, I thought a film by him would be more quirky and have a less Christian film theme and quality to it than this seems to have. Thanks.
Well, it’s the least quirky thing Taylor’s ever done. It’s a straightforward story that does lean toward preachiness, but it avoids sentimentality and offers fairly convincing performances. It’s such an unusual piece that I hope to see it widely discussed. If you saw “Woman, Thou Art Loosed,” then you have a ballpark idea of the sort of film it is.
If it is the least quirky thing he has done, does that not, ipso facto, make it the most out of character, and therefore quirky, thing he has done?
Personally I’d have preferred in-character quirk than out-of-character quirk. (I was looking forward to St. Gimp.) This…well, this has MWS acting. Worse, it has MWS singing on the trailer, which means he’s on the soundtrack.
Does Steve do any music for the film? Pull a M. Night and put himself in the picture in one of the crowd scenes? Is there any jabs at Tilton? C’mon, throw me a bone here.
I hope it does reasonably well, and he can continue to make movies. Since, you know, he seems to have stopped making music.
Needs to know how Jeffrey can recommend a film made by a Christian that’s rated PG-13!
Surely only non-Christians are allowed that rating, if a Christian made it it has to be rated G…
…or lower.
Anonymous: I heartily agree. My faith has been instantly shattered by the disgusting addition of “-13” to the pure and innocent “PG”. Excuse me because I’m suddenly ill.
😉
I have seen the movie. I think it is very good and I hope people will support it. I agree it is quite different than what you might expect from a Steve Taylor project. I actually hope the church will support a movie like this because it asks a lot of very important questions. I am hopeful that it will be able to do a decent box office. I don’t want to give away a lot of what is in the movie, but I will say in someways the conservative church may be more critical of this movie than the mainstream press. I am very hopeful that the movie does well and that Steve is able to create more movies. His next movie is to be a comedy and probably more in line with what some of you expect. Questions? About how many theaters will the movie open in and what is a realistic expectation at the box office
I’m curious about the soundtrack as well. Steve showed he knew what he was doing at Squint. I’m hoping the tunes he picked for the film show he hasn’t lost the knack.
