All glory to God, who moves in very mysterious ways!
To make a long story short… and believe me, eventually I’ll tell you the long and bizarr-o story…
Random House has just offered me a two-book deal.
They want one of my novels… the one I care about most… and a sequel!
We’re in the discussion stage, but it looks like I’ll eventually get to invite you into the world I’ve been dreaming up over the last six years.
God is pulling off some wild and amazing things. I’m humbled and mind-boggled.
Much, much more to come.
Thank you for your prayers. Don’t stop now!
Wow, dude, stunning development. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear more.
Blogged you, babe!
Congratulations! I am so very excited for you, and good luck tangling with the big pub houses. You’ll knock ’em dead!
Kudos, Jeffrey! How exciting! Praying for your project –
Yowsa! Am most pleased with this development God has placed before you. I have enjoyed your reviews and thoughtful commentary for some time and will be first in line to buy your book if this comes to fruition. I praise God for this opportunity for you!
Awesome and congratulations. =)
Way to go! I’ve been visiting your blog and enjoying your reviews for some time. I haven’t been this excited for somebody I’ve never met before. Go figure. I look forward to more good news for you.
Bravo, Jeffrey! 🙂

Great news mate – another one for the book shelf. Look forward to it coming out.

Happy (but honestly a little jealous) for you. Good luck!
Very Cool Jeff! Perhaps YOU are the “Cinderella Man!” Blessings to you and Anne!!
Congratulations!
J.R.R. is smilin’ with the rest of us!!
I’ve loved your blog and look forward to your book.
That’s awesome! Congratulations!
Well, its about time.
Just make sure you use your new found fame to help your wife get her excellent poetry noticed.
Also, remember to take of your family (including extended family) once you are riding the heights of literary fame.
Yay!
Well done. I look forward to reading it and many more.
Jeff-
Way to go! Looking forward to exploring the world you’ve created…it’s so great to see you recognized for your talents and to see God’s hand at work…
That Rocks. You suck. I have such mixed emotions right now. It’s always good to see a struggling writer succeed, (esp one that I can at least lay claim to knowing when his book knocks the latest Harry Potter off the charts: “Yes, I knew him back when. Well, not exactly knew him, but I left comments on his blog”). It’s always dissapointing when, you know, it’s not me….
But you give the rest of us hope. Congrats.
FABULOUS! Can’t wait to read them.
Congrats J — wonderful news!
Jeffrey
Congrats bro, that’s awesome!

I mean it when I say this: The greatest joy of this whole development is seeing the joy on the faces of my writing teachers, hearing my family celebrate across a phone line, and seeing how many of you are excited about this. For me, honestly, the real excitement comes when I sit down to write the stories. Yes, I’m grateful and happy, but for the most part, I’m in a state of bewilderment that these stories I so enjoy discovering continue to resonate with others. So I’m thriled to share this with all of you, but even more than that–I’m excited to know that storytelling will continue to play a big part in my future.
Perfect description Jeffrey. Captures my feelings exactly. Now I just wish I had bought a copy of the 3 city tour poster that Danny scored.
I have just listened to Arcade Fire, though I’m not a huge art rock fan I have to admit I enjoyed listening to them. Sigur Ros I couldn’t get into on the other hand. AF’s version of the talking heads song this must be the place is a great song.
Having two young kids now, I forget sometimes how many shows I’ve actually been to. Some that stick in my mind:
80s
Bryan Ferry – SDSU amphitheater
Joe Jackson – SDSU amphitheater
(not the best venue, but great shows by two guys probably at their peak)
Peter Murphy opening for The Church, at the California Theater, San Diego (after Peter Murphy finished, the Church were a bit of a snoozer…)
90s
The Waterboys (got to see them twice – on the Fisherman’s Blues tour with the Irish band, then on the Room to Roam tour when they were a rock band again – amazing both times)
Just about every show I’ve seen at McCabe’s Guitar Shop, esp. Victoria Williams (when Willie Aron and Joey Burns were playing with her) and Peter Himmelman).
U2 – Zoo TV tour at Angels Stadium
Tom Waits at the Wiltern
Daniel Lanois at the Coachhouse
GREAT blog. I too was compelled to write up a little wrap up of my experience. It was surreal. Their finale sent goosebumps up my spine as I joined the fray and enjoyed an intimate acoustic gathering to end the evening. PERFECT! zeke

Jeffrey-
we’re definitely on the same wavelength on this one… I love Arcade Fire and am so jealous you got to see the show you described. Oh how I wish I could be you!

At first, I was upset and a wee offeneded at the misspelling of Radiohead’s album THE BENDS…but after getting over that I absolutely loved the description of the Arcade Fire show. I felt like I was there.
It kills me that they STARTED with Wake Up!! Such a great song I think it’d be hard to top…
Based on your review I will somehow manage to get a babysitter for my children, a massage for my wife, and tickets for their next show in Southern California.
Hey Michael Knepher!! You scallywag!
My favorite shows:
U2 at the Anaheim Pond on the Elevation Tour (also w/PJ Harvey).
Paul Westerberg at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles (did a bunch of Replacements tunes and had a great backing band).
Radiohead live at Tower Records for the release of The Bends. From fifteen feet away! Those guys were eight sheets to the wind and still played like master musicians. Amazing.
Steve G.
Wow, that sounds like a fantastic show…”Neighborhood (Power’s Out)” is an amazing song, maybe the best song to be released in 2004.
Favorite concerts:
* Over the Rhine, DRUNKARD’S PRAYER TOUR this past April in Seattle
* Slint, REUNION TOUR, at the SHOWBOX in March
* Mark Knopfler, SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA TOUR, Philadelphia May 2001
* June of ’44, Louisville, Kentucky, some time in 1996
* The many times I have seen the Rachel’s, since they tend to play in the most beautiful settings
