Moviefone’s “exclusive” is going to spread like wildfire, stoking the fires of expectation in Tolkien fans everywhere. The Hobbit screenplays (yes, plural) are written!
And yet, these two projects have yet to get the green light.
What moment from The Hobbit are you most eager to see on the big screen?
For me, it’s the moment when Bilbo climbs to the top of the tallest tree in the forest to get a view of his surroundings. The Rankin Bass cartoon version was goofy, sure, but it had its memorably wonderful moments. And that was one of them.

I can’t wait to see the scene where they enter the trolls’ cave and discover Orcrist, Glamdring and Sting. I’ve always loved the idea of those swords.

I want to see the scene where Bilbo’s ancestor strikes off the head of a goblin leader and instantly invents the game of golf. Followed closely by the scene where the troll wallet begins to yell after Bilbo lifts it out. I seriously doubt these scenes will make it in, but it’s nice to dream. A 25-minute Tarantino-style “Riddles in the Dark” sequence would be lovely, precious, but that’s not likely to happen either.

Any of the scenes with Smaug: the ones with Bilbo, the attack on Esgaroth, or his death.

After the bastardization of LOTR, I’m not sure I can stomach whatever overblown, steel-toned, hyper-epic posturing is going to be foisted upon the Hobbit. My only thought turns to a letter Tolkien wrote in which he discussed his feeling about a film version being proposed during his lifetime. He essentially said either they better get it right or he ought to get lots of money. I hope the estate gets lots of money. And I hope they actually do musical numbers: That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates!

The first conversation between Bilbo and Smaug!

I’m really keen to see the small scene with the raven Roäc — bringing word of Smaug’s demise. I always loved that bird character. In fact, I can’t wait to see all the talking creatures in The Hobbit.
I also can’t wait for the scene where Bilbo starts getting cheeky and amused with himself in his riddles with Smaug. That bit always cracks me up.
It will also be terrific to see if the filmmakers employ a narrator throughout the two films — as the narrator in the book is a distinct voice that I love.
I could go on and on… :)

Bilbo rescuing the dwarves from the elves of Mirkwood . . . I think it’ll be really interesting to see how they depict elves in an antagonistic/sinister way, since that’s so anathema to how they are in LotR.

One word: Thranduil. I’m very curious how they’ll present him.

mmm yes i have to agree with that…
but i also want to see how they deal with the trolls, due to the fact that in lotr they were very savage, compared to the hobbits innocent stupidity…
