Am I disappointed to hear that Terrence Malick’s new movie has been pushed into 2010?
Nope. As far as I’m concerned, he should take as much time as he wants to finish it. Nobody should rush great art. I wouldn’t want to ever hear Malick say, “Well, if I’d had six more months, I could have improved it.”
If there’s anything I can’t stand, it’s having to turn in a project or a review before I feel like it’s ready.

He’s been editing for a long time already, but I’m fine with it.
I watched New World for the third or so time a couple months back and it’s just such a great film. Definitely the best film of whatever year it came out of. It’s just so powerful, seeing Pocahontas being built up from the ashes after John Smith leaves. And most of it we get to see without words – just quiet and nature and music. If any of that sounds stupid, go watch the film.

Timothy: Great to see another New World aficionado. That film alternates with “Wings of Desire” as my favorite of all-time. By the way, did you see the extended edition that came out on DVD this last year? The Blu-Ray format of that version is stunning.
I love that Malick tweaks till doomsday in the editing suite. A year’s post-production seems like normal procedure for him (regarding the Tree of Life delay). He’s an obsessive-compulsive after my own heart. =)

I can’t join in the love for THE NEW WORLD that so many people show (including Jeffrey), but I’m certainly bummed about the wait for TREE OF LIFE, though as Jeffrey says, Malick should take as long as he needs.
