When you watch Benjamin Button, can you forget about Brad Pitt?

During a roundtable interview with Michael Caine, I watched the actor make a tent of his fingers, furrow his brow, and ponder this question: “Is there something that you wish moviegoers and filmcritics would learn to understand about movies, something we just don’t get?”

Caine’s reply intrigues me. Come on over to Filmwell, and find out what he said in answer… and what that has to do with the title of this post.

Also, check out these recent Filmwell entries:

  • Mike Hertenstein, the brains behind Cornerstone’s excellent Flickerings film festival, talks about running the show.
  • Are there any sane artists at the movies? Or all they all half-crazy?
  • Movie Nazis: Should we hate them?

In memory of Dom Deluise…

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

I have fond memories of Dom Deluise for his enthusiastic opening scene in one of the most influential films of my childhood.

So, in memory of Dom Deluise, here’s the opening scene of The Muppet Movie (followed by a program I’ve never seen before, that should be a treat for Muppet fans).

Was it all in her head?

Sam Phillips is currently without a label, an intolerable circumstance.

So she’s releasing new songs for free on her website.

There’s a new track up today, available here. Okay, it’s not exactly new. It was recorded in 2004, and produced by T-Bone Burnett (which is rather ironic, if you think about what was going on with Sam in 2004, and what this song seems to be about). She’s played it live, but the song’s never been released before.

It’ll only be up for a couple of weeks, so get it while the gettin’s good.
